UETA (Uniform Electronic Transactions Act)
A state-level law adopted by 49 states giving electronic signatures equivalent legal effect.
The Uniform Electronic Transactions Act is a model statute that has been adopted, in some form, by 49 states (all except New York, which has a similar statute under a different name). Together with the federal ESIGN Act, UETA establishes that electronic signatures and electronic records are legally equivalent to their paper counterparts for nearly all transaction types. UETA defines the legal requirements for an enforceable electronic signature: intent to sign, consent to electronic transactions, and a clear association of the signature with the document.
