ESIGN Act
The federal law (2000) that gives electronic signatures the same legal effect as handwritten ones.
The Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act, signed into law in 2000, establishes that electronic signatures and electronic records cannot be denied legal effect solely because they are in electronic form. The Act applies to all interstate commerce — which functionally covers all leases — and is supplemented at the state level by the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act, adopted in 49 states. ESIGN's main carveouts (wills, divorce decrees, court orders) do not affect park leases, which can be fully electronic from authorization through final signature.
