HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development)

The federal agency that enforces fair-housing law and administers federal housing programs.

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development is the federal cabinet department responsible for housing policy, including enforcement of the Fair Housing Act. HUD investigates fair-housing complaints, certifies state and local fair-housing agencies, and operates the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program. Mobile-home-park operators have direct exposure to HUD primarily through fair-housing complaints filed by residents or applicants — HUD has a documented complaint and conciliation process that begins with a 10-day response window from the operator.
